The Pumpkin Type Fighter got it's name from the bizarre alloy used to forge pieces of it's fuselage. Due to the incredible strength and smoothness of the material, most paints refused to stick to the surface. After the initial shock of that discovery though, it was generally considered in bad taste to paint it because the bright orange proudly proclaimed it's unique heritage. It was originally manufactured by a privately owned planet near an asteroid mining belt for defense against raiding pirate bands and BT Revenge forces. The "P-Type" fighter is moderately armed for it's size with one large side mounted Ion cannon and a bank of particle flak cannons. It is also exceptionally overpowered making it very maneuverable. The various marauding forces were at first shocked and dismayed at the effectiveness of the fighter, and lost scores of attack ships to them. However, after a short time, one pirate band got smart and approached the manufacturer willing to pay exorbitant prices for a small fleet of them. Soon, everyone in the region wanted one and the planet found itself getting rich off of the deal. It is ironic to note that the ship that was designed to fend off thieves from a quiet planet actually ended up attracting them and getting rich in the process.
